CTY stands for Children Teens Youth
In 2012, the leadership at Lion’s Heart saw the need to give the children a smooth transition from attending Sunday School to the youth services, and from the youth services, to the main congregation. Through the years, we realized that the spiritual lives of our children are at risk when they go to college. This is substantiated by the fact that according to a Pew Research survey, only 27% of millennials (those born between 1981 to 2004), say they attend religious services on a weekly basis. This led to the integration of the Children and Youth Ministry, with a special attention given to the teens.
At CTY, the Sunday School lessons that are taught to the children, are taken from the sermons that Pastor Jose teaches to the main congregation. His outlines are rewritten in such a way that it will be understood by the young members of the church, with a strong emphasis in the application of bible principles. Majority of our Sunday School teachers are the parents of our Sunday School children. This is because at Lion’s Heart we strongly believe that the best legacy that we can give our children is the passing on of our faith.
At CTY, the children and youth are not only taught the unadulterated word of God but more importantly its application, practicality and relevance in their daily lives. Their gifts and talents are discovered and developed through activities like skits, dance, choir, etc. The children are also taught social responsibilities by making them aware of what is happening not only in their community but also in the world around them and more importantly, what they can do to help the poor and needy. Our children are very much involved in activities that raise funds for missions like carwash, Bike-a-thon, walkathon, lunch-for-missions, movie night, to name a few. What a joy to see our young ones be involved! Not only does CTY raise funds for missions, it also conducts youth camps and children’s workers seminars in missions.
CTY does not only make its own curriculum materials for Sunday School but also since 2015, from the teachings of Pastor Jose, CTY develops and creates its own VBS materials – from the lessons, teaching aids, props, etc. Not only do we save money, as we don’t need to buy VBS materials, the creativity of the teachers and children are very much tapped into. The commitment and involvement of everyone at CTY is very much commendable and appreciated. The future of Lion’s Heart is good when we see our children committed in their relationship with God and in serving him
